Charlottetown could be said to have the best of both worlds. With a population of around 35,000 people, it has managed to retain its small town charm whilst still enjoying the amenities of a 21st century city. It is the largest city on Prince Edward Island and its capital. Its legislature building, now known as Province House, was completed in 1847 and is currently the second-oldest legislative seat in Canada.

Charlottetown holds an important place in the history of modern day Canada. It was at Province House that the leaders of the Maritime colonies and the Province of Canada first met to discuss Canadian Confederation.

With the city sitting on the edge of a sheltered harbour, opening onto the Northumberland Strait, water activities are plenty. Those interested in Charlottetown's historic past will find lots to see and learn at one of Charlottetown's 11 national historic sites, the most notable of them being Province House.

RV travel is a laid-back experience on Prince Edward Island. Guests wishing to rent an RV and discover Charlottetown and the Maritime Provinces first-hand will find Halifax a popular pick-up location. Getting to Charlottetown is easy. The Confederation Bridge crosses Northumberland Strait from Cape Jourimain, New Brunswick to Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island - taking the Trans Canada Highway through Charlottetown and ending at the ferry terminal at Wood Islands. A bridge toll applies in one direction only.

From Charlottetown you can day trip to Prince Edward Island National Park or, if you prefer, base yourself at one of the many RV campgrounds on the North Shore.
