Originally named “Wascana” (“Buffalo Bones” in the Cree language), the second-largest city in Saskatchewan was renamed Regina in 1882 in honour of Queen Victoria. Today this city is home to over 200,000 people and is the province’s capital.
Visitors to Regina will find a city full of parks and green spaces and other recreational facilities. Landmarks worth visiting include the restored Government House, the Legislative Building and Stone Hall Castle. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Depot Division, on the outskirts of the city, has been training mounties since 1885 and the RCMP Heritage Centre there brings to life the story of the RCMP and its role in the development of Canada.
Wascana Centre, in the heart of the city, is one of the top things to see and do in Regina. The centre is a beautifully landscaped park surrounded by a lake and home to many of the city’s most important buildings.
RV camping is available at a number of private RV parks around Regina, all within easy reach of the Trans Canada Highway.
