Whales, Puffins, Icebergs, Music and Locals - Set Sail in Newfoundland with the Gatherall’s Puffin and Whale Watch.
“This Boat Tour is a MUST DO when in Newfoundland”, said Margaret Chenoff of Saskatchewan. “We saw so many puffins, and two different kind of whales. The tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. We loved it so much we went twice!
With approximately 260 000 pairs of puffins, the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve contains the largest puffin colony in North America. Between May and September hundreds of thousands of other types of seabirds nest in the cliffs of the reserve as well, including murres, kittiwakes and storm petrels.

The waters of the reserve also become the feeding grounds for various species of whales including the majestic humpback. Whale encounters and sightings peak during mid-June through to mid-August. Whales may be present from mid May until late September but sightings outside of the peak season are always a bonus.

Iceberg season in eastern Newfoundland is typically May and June. While the region receives fewer icebergs than northern Newfoundland, when they arrive these ancient pieces of glacier are often very dramatic as they near the end of their journey.
