As most people know, Canadian winters can be quite harsh, but this is true only in some places. Eastern Canada--encompassing the major cities of Toronto and Montreal, for instance--gets harshly cold between December and February, while the coast of British Columbia in the west remains more moderate. Most regions across the country get some amount of snow through the winter, with some areas liable to receive two feet on occasion.

1.)  Wapiti Campground - Jasper, AB

First up on our list is the Wapiti Campground at Jasper National Park in Alberta. Although we have found that families love camping at this site all year-round, the winter is when the campgrounds really come alive. With a combination of electrical and tent sites, campers have the option of truly enjoying the great outdoors when spending a few nights here. The upside of wintertime camping in Wapiti is that, if you can arise early enough each morning, you will be able to enjoy first access to the ample ski slopes and cross-country trails on offer nearby. Plus, the Wapiti Campground is located near enough to the town of Jasper for campers to go and grab any supplies they need. The campground also gives visitors access to showers, flush toilets, drinking water, and a cooking shelter. Enjoy some time in the majestic Canadian wilderness at Wapiti!

2.)  Tunnel Mountain - Banff, AB

Situated in Banff National Park - the oldest of its kind in Canada - are the campgrounds at Tunnel Mountain. The area features a few separate campgrounds, including Mountain Village I, Tunnel Mountain Village II, and Tunnel Mountain Trailer. Each area has its own restrictions on how many people, tents, and RVs are allowed at a site, so be sure to check out the rules online before reserving a spot. The other difference you will notice is the kinds of services available at each type of site. While the Trailer area features electric, water, and sewer services, the Village I area features none of those. No matter where you end up camping, know that you will enjoy mostly fair weather in Banff National Park. Spring and summer, of course, offer manageable daily highs of between 10 and 18 degrees Celsius. However, it still gets cold at night, around 0 degrees or lower, and it can snow, rain, or even hail in any season. Therefore, campers around Tunnel Mountain should be advised that warm clothing, bedding, and blankets are a must when camping here.

3.) Riverside Resort - Whistler, BC

If it’s activities and a range of accommodation options you are looking for, Riverside Resort in Whistler is the place to go. The site advertises itself as a cottage and RV resort, but the truth is that it is so much more than that. You have your choice of walk-in tent sites, yurts, serviced and partial-serviced RV sites, and, of course, log cabins. As far as activities, where should we begin? There’s nothing quite like a snowy Canadian winter, and to that end, be sure to enjoy some snowshoeing or cross-country skiing while staying at Riverside . To ensure your time at Cedar Falls is all it can be, each campsite features a fire pit and picnic table. While staying here, be sure to check out all the nearby activities and attractions in and around the Vernon area. These include hiking trails, the BX Press Cidery, and Lake City Casino , which offers all the table games, slots, and food you could possibly want. Or, if it’s just the beautiful Canadian winters you’re after, stick to the RV sites, where you can enjoy cooking over an open flame and simply walking in the woods. It’s the best of both worlds when you stay in Cedar Falls .

 5.) Fernie RV Resort - Fernie BC
